Shriyanka Sadangi Shines at ISSF World Cup: A Historic Moment for Indian Shooting

Shriyanka's Remarkable Achievement

Lima: Indian shooter Shriyanka Sadangi has made history by qualifying for her first individual world cup final in the women's 50m rifle 3 positions (3P) event at the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun stage.

In the final, Shriyanka secured the eighth position, concluding her performance after the 10th shot in the Standing Position round, which was the 40th of the 45-shot final. The gold medal was claimed by Sagen Maddalena from the USA, who is also a silver medallist from the Paris Olympics.

With this victory, the USA topped the medal standings with three golds and a total of six medals. India held the second position after the third day of competitions, boasting two golds along with a silver and a bronze.

The day proved to be tough for Indian shooters, as none qualified for the men's 3P final, and they faced challenges in the men's 25m rapid-fire pistol (RFP) event after the first qualifying round.

In the women's 3P, despite a rocky start in the kneeling and prone positions, Shriyanka, along with Ashi Chouksey and previous world cup gold medallist Sift Kaur Samra, managed to accelerate their performance in the final standing position, striving for the qualifying mark.

Shriyanka finished seventh with a commendable score of 588, while Ashi placed ninth and Sift came in 11th, both narrowly missing the qualifying mark with scores of 587.

Shriyanka began the final strongly with a 10.5 on her first shot, but as the competition intensified, her performance waned. She briefly climbed to sixth place but faltered with scores of 9.8 and 9.3, ultimately finishing with a score of 400.7, exiting alongside Brazil's Geovana Meyer, who placed seventh.

In the men's 3P event, Aishwary Tomar, Niraj Kumar, and Chain Singh finished in 17th, 18th, and 19th places, respectively. Both Aishwary and Niraj scored 587, just missing the qualifying mark by a couple of points, while Chain scored 586.

The day also featured the men's RFP event, where Anish, Vijayveer Sidhu, and Gurpreet Singh ended the first day of qualifying outside the top six. They will need to perform exceptionally in the second rapid-fire round tomorrow to have a chance at a medal.
